Abstract: The use of shear wall-buildings is quite common in some earthquake prone regions. During seismicexcitation, they contribute in absorbing moments and shear forces and reduce torsional response. Usually, architectural design leads to the existence of doors and windows within shear walls. In this present study the main focus is to determine the effectiveness of shear wall with regular and staggered opening in regular building under earthquake loads with the help of time history method of analysis on ETABS software.
